Our Associate Director, Jane Samaniego, was featured in the California Initiative to Advance Precision Medicine’s March newsletter for her ongoing work with the CIAPM-funded project: Making the Unseen Seen Trial of Depression (MUST-D): Scrutinizing social determinants of depression to advance precision and equitable care (UCSD, Lead Principal Investigator: Suzi Hong, PhD). In this interview, Jane discusses the importance of community partnerships in health research to provide opportunities for participation that are representative of diverse participants. The MUST-D Community Advisory Board patient members, in particular, have provided valuable insight into how social determinants of health questions are perceived and how the context for why they are being asked is important for building meaningful and sustainable engagement and implementation practices.
