Study Summary

In partnership with LRRI, the UCSD-based YourMove study is a control optimization trial (COT) aimed at improving physical activity among inactive adults, aged 25-80 (NCT05598996). Led by Dr. Eric Hekler and colleagues, YourMove is a 12-month randomized controlled trial that will include 386 participants randomized to either a COT-optimized intervention or non-COT intervention. All participants receive a Fitbit smartwatch activity tracker and corresponding app, daily step goals with point rewards, and tailored text messaging to encourage more than 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Participants in the COT-optimized intervention also receive daily prompts and ecological momentary assessment measures rooted in social cognitive theory to promote behavior change via Fitbit, personalized daily step goals, and a study tool designed to support individuals in self-experimentation to identify strategies that work for them to fit regular MVPA into their lives.
