The Healthy 4 You Program was funded by the California Initiative for the Advancement of Precision Medicine as part of the California Comeback Plan. The long-term goal of this project is to develop community-centered, culturally appropriate, precision interventions that could be delivered within federally qualified healthcare centers for Latino Families, to reduce adverse childhood events (ACES) risks and treat childhood obesity. In partnership with the University of California, San Diego, FHCSD conducted a 2×2 factorial trial with four groups meant to determine what combination of intervention components influences family protective factors, a key marker for reduced risk of the deleterious effects of systemic and family/individual stressors that are a critical part of ACEs and childhood obesity. This project utilizes three lenses: clinical science, implementation, and systems thinking, to study the impact of the Healthy 4 You Program on increasing family protective factors (i.e., parental resilience, social connections, concrete support in times of need, and social-emotional competence in children). The four groups consisted of: 1) a standardized version of the Healthy Together weight management program that currently exists at FHCSD control)2) Healthy Together plus parenting training program/psychology support; 3) Healthy Together plus support from a Promotora trained community health worker; or 4) Healthy Together plus parenting training/psychology support and Promotora support. In partnership with the Optimizing Virtual Care Program at FHCSD, all participating children will be monitoring their physical activity with a Fitbit watch.
