Drs. Sara Gombatto and Katrina Monroe at San Diego State University are partnering with FHCSD on the STEPPT project funded by the National Institutes of Health. STEPPT aims to improve engagement in physical therapy among Hispanic and Latino FHCSD patients experiencing neck and/or back pain. This novel, multilevel intervention will be adapted and tested among FHCSD primary care clinics beginning in 2024. It will involve provider involvement, enhancements to the FHCSD electronic health record, culturally and linguistically appropriate patient health literacy education, and enhanced health care navigation to increase rates of physician referral to Physical Therapy (PT) and patient adherence to PT referral.
