As part of a two-year initiative funded by the California Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP), FHCSD and UC San Diego Health are partnering to increase engagement in lung cancer screening (LCS) among low-income, tobacco-using adults. The Enhancing Primary Care Workflows to Improve Lung Cancer Screening Engagement project focuses on reducing disparities in early lung cancer detection by integrating proactive workflows and patient-centered tools into primary care settings. This program uses a multicomponent approach to improve access and uptake of low-dose CT screening, including new decision aids, streamlined electronic health record workflows, and tailored patient navigation. Through this systems-level strategy, the project will evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of embedding LCS workflows within Federally Qualified Health Centers serving communities most affected by tobacco-related disease.
