Through funding by the National Institutes of Health NIH, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is examining the association between continuously and objectively measured physical activity and clinician-assessed performance status scores, overall patient survival, and clinical outcomes of significance in advanced cancer patients. This study will utilize the technological capabilities of a system that links home-based monitoring sensors to a cyber-infrastructure capable of sending data in real time to the patient’s healthcare team. Family Health Centers of San Diego is collaborating on this project to advise on study design and analyses. In addition, FHCSD is contributing to the interpretation of findings and will assist in the preparation of manuscripts and dissemination of results.
